Learning
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
Why choose us for your child’s learning?

We focus on the skills your child needs to succeed in school and beyond. This helps them feel confident and prepared for the future.

Extension opportunities
Some students are ready for more challenges. We offer open-ended tasks, enrichment programs and support. We help all students to reach their full potential.
What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
Students can take part in special religious education (SRE) at Towamba Public School when an approved scripture teacher is available. At this time, special education in ethics (SEE) classes are not available at our school as there is no approved provider available.
When enrolling your child, you can choose whether you would like them to participate in SRE. Students not participating in SRE are supervised in indepdent learning activities. You are able to change your child's participation in SRE at any time. This can be done by advising the school in writing, or by using the link online form on the School Bytes Parent Portal.

High potential and gifted students are found across diverse family, socio-economic, language, cultural backgrounds and different geographic locations. High potential students are those whose potential exceeds that of students of the same age. They may benefit from an enriched or extended curriculum and learning opportunities beyond the typical level of their age peers. Gifted students are those whose potential significantly exceeds that of students of the same age. They typically develop talent and achieve mastery notably faster than their age peers. Highly gifted students are those whose potential vastly exceeds that of their age peers. Highly gifted students may require specific and significant curriculum adjustments to meet their learning and wellbeing needs.
All students, regardless of background or personal circumstances, require access to learning programs that meet their learning needs and support them to aspire to, and achieve, personal excellence. Towamba Public School has a commitment to high expectations for all students including high potential and gifted students. This is underpinned by effective school environments including quality teaching, learning and leadership. Towamba Public School uses a comprehensively differentiated teaching and learning program to help identify and extend students demonstrating high potential or giftedness. Where possible, additional programs are implemented to support extension beyond the learning program.
The four domains of potential do not sit in isolation and students may demonstrate high potential in one or more domains. The domains of potential may interact and influence one another. The creative domain of potential refers to natural abilities in imagination, invention and originality. The intellectual domain of potential refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning. The physical domain of potential refers to natural abilities in muscular movement and motor control. The social-emotional domain of potential refers to natural abilities in self-management and relating to and interacting with others.

Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly explain to students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical, and we are committed to equity and access. We support all learning needs using current proven teaching strategies. Teachers take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.
The Seven Learning Superpowers
The seven Towamba learning disposition superpower characters were created as a joint project between a then Year 5 student (look for the Zee Bee in each image!) and local graphic designer Emma Godfredson of egCreative, who tweaked the student designs to come up with our own unique Towamba learning superpowers.
Towamba's seven learning superpowers are adapted from John Hattie's Visible Learning.
